Introduction to Powersim Workshop

Duration: 3 days


Audience:

  • Anyone wishing to develop skills in simulation modeling to evaluate complex decision making.
  • Anyone who needs to sharpen their skills with Powersim Studio

Participants will learn:

  • Stock and Flows
  • Feedback Loops
  • Building Causal Loops
  • How to Model First Order Systems
  • How to Model Higher Order Systems
  • Testing and Debugging Models
  • Model Verification and Validation
  • Analyzing Model Behavior

This course will enable you to:


  • Use system dynamics methodology to describe your system.
  • Use Powersim Studio to develop models of complex systems.
  • Effectively communicate your system to others.

Instructors:

Len Malczynski: Len is a system dynamics practitioner, micro-economist and software engineer. Len has nearly 20 years experience using Powersim Studio and has been an instructor at UNM since 1988.

Jake Jacobson: Jake has been using System Dynamics for over 18 years and has modeling experience in biofuels, energy water nexus, hybrid energy and nuclear fuel cycle.

Webinar Series

Learn from the Comfort of your office This series consists of five 2 hour sessions. The training includes on-line training with additional exercises and reading material.

Class Room

  • Jake Jacobson and Len Malczynski, the owners of Mindseye Computing, recently came to NM WRRI and taught an introductory workshop on the use of Powersim Studio. The ability of Powersim to characterize and project the behavior of complex systems is critical to my work, which is an ongoing effort to account for the origin and fate of New Mexico’s historical and future water supply. During the three-day workshop, Jake and Len shared their passion and expertise for Powersim and system dynamics with the thirteen participants. The highly interactive and hands-on structure of the workshop led participants to an improved understanding of the software and highlighted the use of some of the powerful functions within it.
